There have been several issues reported to us by our customers with the usage of the TCP Offloading (Chimney) feature when dealing with Broadcom network cards. These issues have been solved by turning off TCP Offloading.
If your site is experiencing a possible network related issue and have Broadcom network cards and TCP Offloading (Chimney) enabled, one suggestion would be to disable the feature and see if the issue persists.
Many sites may run with TCP offloading enabled on their network cards and never experience a problem. From our experience issues associated with TCP Offloading can become more of a problem as network load increases.
Please note, TCP Offloading is a feature of the network card and may exist on UNIX platforms as well as Windows platforms. See your Operating System or hardware vendor for additional information on how to disable this feature if the site is experiencing problems that may be associated with this feature.
